Experienced specialists of gastroenterology will be ready to hear you, and recommend plans for further diagnosis and all necessary treatment in Irva Clinic.
Some of the most common diagnostic methods are:

ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND

Abdominal ultrasound is a diagnostic method of visualization of abdominal cavity. It is used primarily to determine the size and composition of parenchymal cells of abdominal organs: liver, kidney and adrenal gland, pancreas, spleen, and gallbladder and bile ducts, abdominal aorta, lymph nodes, full bladder and prostate. What is important to note is that the hollow bodies filled with air and gases like stomach, small and large intestine, due to phenomenon of reflection cannot be visible using this diagnostic tool. Therefore, for examination of these organs we use endoscopic methods like gastroscopy or colonoscopy. During these procedures at our hospital, patients are getting local and short-term intravenous anesthesia.

The most common causes for abdominal ultrasound are:

1. Pain in the abdomen and pelvic.
2. Nausea, vomiting and abdominal bloating.
3. Difficulties with urination and discharge.
4. Yellow discoloration of skin, visible mucous membranes and eyes.
5. Abdominal injury.

If doctor requests ultrasound scan, patients should take special attention to preparation for abdominal ultrasound. It consists of the following:

  1. The patient should take 2 tablets of Espumisan one day before the examination, in the evening. Patients with irregular stools should also take one Dulcolax suppository, the same night.
  2. The next morning, patient should take another 2 tablets of Espumisana. At least 4-6 hours before the examination they cannot eat anything, so that there are no gases in intestine or gallbladder is flat;
  3. Last meal prior to the examination should be light, only toast or biscuit with unsweetened tea or water;
  4. One hour before the examination the patient should drink two glasses of water to fill the bladder. The patient should not urinate before the examination!

Gastroscopy is the endoscopic method that allows us direct overview of the initial part of the digestive tract (esophagus and stomach).

PREPARATION FOR GASTROSCOPY:

1. Patient should not eat, drink, or smoke, 6-7 hours before procedure;
2. Previous tablet therapy should be taken with some liquid;
3. Doctors should be informed, if there was a previous sensitivity to local or general      anesthetics of the patient;
4. Patient should not drink or eat for at least 2 hours after the procedure;
5. Please provide transportation to your home.

Results will be reported 4-5 days later, if piece of tissue was taken for biopsy.

PREPARATION FOR COLONOSCOPY:

1. Last meal should be lunch two days before the intervention;
2. In 2 liters of water dissolve 2 bags of Fortrans, and drink it 18 to 22 hours before;
3. Next day, drink another 2 liters of water with 2 bags of Fortrans during the day;
4. On the same day and 4-5 hours before the procedure, if done under general anesthesia, do not drink anything.
